Well, the official release date for The Eternal Prison is this week (8/12) and while such dates increasingly don’t mean much (the book’s been spotted in the wild and has been shipping from Amazon for a week) it’s still a handy date to celebrate. So, I’ll be giving away a few books this week.
I’m targeting anyone who might be interested in my books but who hasn’t bought them yet. Since The Eternal Prison is launching this week, I’ll be giving away signed copies of The Electric Church and The Digital Plague, books 1 and 2 in the Avery Cates series, to 3 randomly selected folks who email me at mreditor@innerswine.com or post in the comments on this blog by Friday, August 14, 2009.
Just tell me a) you haven’t read the Cates books, b) you are intrigued by the Cates books and want to give ’em a whirl, and c) if you dig TEC and TDP, you might buy TEP. That’s it! On Friday, I’ll just pick three emails/comments that appeal to me and mail ’em off. That’s it!
Damnit, I already have TEC and TDP and have long since placed my order for TEP. This is what I get for liking the books too much: NO LOOT.
It must have been more than a year ago that I spotted Jae Lee across the B&N. I checked out the book and decided to buy it…later. (I even had it on an Amazon wish-list but my friend opted for another book.) I googled he book and have been reading this blog since. I always feel guilty ’cause I REALLY enjoy this blog and I can pay you back for it it with twelve bucks, or whatever, but… maybe later. That’s terrible, isn’t it!? i love your meditations on genre and pantslessness but I never make the leap that I guess this blog is for… You could help me. I need your help.
I’m feelin’ random. And hey, I live in Jersey City!
I’ve been reading your Cates books from the start and have The Eternal Prison in line to be read soon. Yes, I’ve already purchased that as well.
I figure I won’t support you drinking habit by buying you booze. No, instead I’ll buy your books and hope that you use the profits [profits?] to buy food and pay the rent.
Hopefully whoever wins the books will indeed go on to support you through similar means. [Don’t buy him booze people! If you do, he’ll end up pantless and wandering the neighborhood!]
Hey this is Dan’s friend. This is definitely not Dan trying to swindle more swag out of you. Nope.
TEP SPOILER:
SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE.
P.S. Have you ever tried “The Lasanta” by Glenmorangie? They were out of Madeira Wood, so I got this. Not bad.
Don: Sorry, man. That’s how it rolls sometimes.
Frank: Noted. You’re in the running!
Andrew: JERSEY CITY BOYZ HOLLAH. Also: you’re in the running!
Craig: Lord knows more booze = less writing, so that’s good advice, my friend.
Dan: I just had the Lasanta for the first time on my birthday. The wife was urging me to order the $110 Macallan so we could lose the house, but I held firm and tried the Lasanta instead. Nice stuff. Madeira still wins my money, though.
I haven’t got TEC or TDP yet, but I would want to, since I’ve read very good things about them in various blogs. Thus, I’m very interested in them. If if I get them, I would seriuosly consider buying TEP as well.
Greetings from Spain
Odo
odo,
Thanks! You’re in the running!
J
Waiting patiently for TEP to download on my Kindle, only to be stolen back by Big Brother when they decide to invoke their DRM voodoo. Sounds like you had a great B-Day!
Damaso: Just DL it from Pirate Bay when that happens. I won’t mind. Bday was grand, thanks!
I’ve been wanting to read these for some time now and I’d love to be entered.
Paul
Paul,
You’re in the running! Thanks!
J
A friend has strongly recommended these books – I expect I would enjoy reading them
JoeV, thanks- -you’re in the running!

Aw. I wanted your million dollar signature and be a total groupie about it to everybody I know. Oh well.
Looking forward to The Eternal Prison though.
Karoline,
I’ll sign anything folks send me, so feel free!
(if you actually get a million bucks for it, I demand a fee Booze is acceptable).
J
Okay, I confess, despite being mesmerized by your tweets, I haven’t gotten my hands on TEP or TDP yet. I did try, though, that one time that I got to a town big enough to have real bookstore, as opposed to the spinning rack at my grocery store.
So please, pick me, because I am a series addict and I guarantee I’ll have to buy TEP if the first two don’t give me nightmares.
Kari Lynn Dell
Kari Lynn,
I like the guarantee. You’re in the running!

Seen em on the shelf…may have even checked one out of the library once and added to the too high TBR pile only to have to return the after 2 renewals. Would love to be in the show…I mean, I better start from the start – so, TEC for me. Between the foster kids, the impending job loss (2nd time laid off by the same company – awesome), funds can be tight. How’s that for pulling at the heartstrings! It’s not really all that bad…last job loss was one of the best things that pushed me forward. OK, enough of that.
I would like to read all the books, in order.
Please.
–Tom
Tom,
Thanks for checking in – you’re in the running!
J
I would sure love to check out The Electric Church – I’ve heard really good things about the books, and would probably end up buying TDP *and* TEP… how about that?
You guys need to get more original! These aren’t just free books, they’re free JEFF SOMERS books.
Try a haiku, for example:
Curse drunken fingers
Makes it hard to turn the page
Reading the Jeff way
I just found your blog as I was looking for more books to fill my Kindle. I haven’t read anything else of yours yet but I need to because: 1. Your friends love you and buy you good booze. Always a good sign. 2. You are married to the best woman in the world and know it. Got to love that in a guy. 3. You are giving away signed copies and signed copies just give me the chills. 4. My local library is cutting their hours and that’s just sad. 5. I am out of John Ringo and David Weber books to read and Publishers Weekly says ”
Somers packs his techno-thriller debut with enough gunplay and explosions to satisfy a Hollywood producer”
so it sounds like your books are right up my alley. I’d love a signed copy or Kindle version of anything at all. Glad to hear you had a great birthday. Kisses to the wife.
Diane
Dan,
Be careful or you’ll get some signed copies yourself, with poetry skilz like that.
J
Diane,
Thanks. Now THAT’s a comment. You’re in the running!

I haven’t read the Cates books (in fact I just found out about them) and they sound very interesting, and I will definately be making an effort to find them and read them. However, as I live in such a remote location (Flin Flon, Canada), I would have to look for them when we went on a trip to the city, or order them online. If I enjoy them I will definately be buying all such similar books I can, as you can never have enough books to get through the winters up here.
Please consider me for your draw, and thanks alot for pointing me in the direction of these interesting sounding novels.
Gord,
Thanks! You’re in the running.
Best
Jeff
Damn, already picked up TEP, and am a big fan of the series.
However, saw that you mentioned you sign anything sent to you – true? any details? I’d love to have my copies signed!
-alex
Alex (and anyone else interested),
I happily sign anything if you can get it to me. Mail me books, body parts, cats, whatever, and I will sign and mail back. If you have any particular inscription you’d like, go on ahead and let me know. You can click on the CONTACT tab on the blog’s main page for mailing info.
J
Jeff,
I haven’t read your books, but I did follow a little of the online presence of The Electric Church and The Digital Plague. I remember that there was a person last year that received an advance of 20 pages of The Eternal Prison. I was so jealous. That’s certainly the way an author should treat his readers.
I have started working on your online text adventure for The Eternal Prison and find it fascinating. I am sure that your cross media storytelling is the way to go. I would love to have a signed copy of The Electric Church so that I can brag to all of my online friends.
-Chuck
Cricks: I approve of this comment. You’re in the running for the books!

I am SO buying The Eternal Prison tomorrow.
I forgot what day it was… I know, I’m slightly slow.
But I am excited to read it!
Keep up the good work. I dig your style and hope that my writing will end up as awesome as yours.
Kristian
Oh yeah, and I would LOVE a signed copy of your books. FANTASTIC
I have never read any of these books but after reading the excerpt over at Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist I sure am intrigued – it sounds awesome! If it’s not too late please enter me in the giveaway, it would be fabulous to have signed copy.
Valerie,
Not too late! You’re in the running.
J
Hey there…. I have been on the edge of buying The Eternal Church and the Digital Plague a couple of occasions – a few while on vacation in Europe (agh… even with the exchange rate… I am still curious and would buy the third… hell I even might if I don’t get the free copies….
Take care
Greg,
Thanks for the note – you’re in the running!
J
I just wanted to say that it is sooo sweet that you are taking the time to reply to every comment – that’s very kind and thoughtful of you! 🙂
I’m also thrilled to hear I’m not too late for the giveaway – WOOHOO!!
Valerie,
Shucks – I hate when you put your name in for something and you get a big fat nothing back, and you wonder if anyone saw it or not. So I figured, least I can do is acknowledge everyone!
J
So there’s like 4 peeps still that I gave a buck to, to enter this contest, and they ain’t done shit… I ain’t no Canny Orel, but I’m pretty sure I’m having my money back.
Blueman,
If you need some muscle to back you up, gimme a call.
