Interview with Sean Ferrell

Numb by Sean FerrellBecause he keeps showing up at my house with a boom-box and reenacting the scene from Say Anything, I finally gave in and spent some time with author Sean Ferrell, whose first novel Numb was published by Harper last year and whose second novel is about to be announced. The resulting evening was recorded for my own security, and I decided to turn those tapes into an interview for the KGB lit magazine. Boiling 18 hours of binge drinking and forbidden dancing into a 1000-word interview wasn’t easy, but I am, after all, a genius.

Go read Under the Umbrella here. GO NOW.

That is, without a doubt, exactly the kind of interaction I imagined you and Sean Ferrell would have . . . and Ms. Reid as feral Mary Poppins simply made it better.

When is he going to post his interview of you?

Sarah: First of all “Feral Mary Poppins” is fantastic and I am stealing it. Stolen. Second: This is actually a pretty accurate transcription of the evening, and I have the audio to prove it. Third: Sean will not interview me because in public Sean is like Hal from the prologue of “Infinite Jest”.

Jeff, this was GREAT! I am consumed with jealousy that I was not present for this. Are you sure Dan Krokos was actually there and not merely a hallucination? I noticed he had no lines.

Also, I think you should change Sarah’s line to “Ferrell Mary Poppins”

Patty: I am actually unsure if any of it was real. I may have been hallucinating. Dan never speaks in public. He just stares at you with a Kubrick Stare until you break.

That was fun, though the paying for drinks part was sad. This won’t come out right, but it sounds like Sean’s books might be kinda, you know, wordy…
